Marius Melissas BELGIAN, b. 1999
Overview
Marius Melissas is an artist born in Antwerp and currently working in Brussels. Having finished his MA at Elisava in design through new materials, he is now pursuing his artistic career. His practice focuses on the creation of regenerative artworks made with biological materials. He experimented with micro-algae pigments, creating ‘living paintings’ whose colors shift over time. This resulted in an exhibition called Bio Pigments atelier.
He looks beyond tangible reality, perceiving the universe as a continuous flow where "source energy" manifests itself as Nature. For him, creation requires a process of partial destruction, adaptation, and reconfiguration to achieve wholeness.
He crafts regenerative paintings by experimenting and aligning his materials with his vision of natural harmony. Detached from conceptual or cultural meanings, his intuitive, free-flowing style mirrors this universal flow. Melissas’ art invites viewers to abandon interpretation and simply feel.
