It invites us to think about how we as individuals become involved in these dynamics. How our perception of winning and losing affects us and how we sometimes underestimate the role of spectator. It remains just a game. Depends on which side you are on. How you look at it. What you see. What you want to see. There are the winners, the losers and the viewers. The title "See Battle" conjures up images of conflict, of strategy and unpredictability. But at its core, it remains just a game. Are those who determine strategy playing? Do they sense victory approaching? The defeat advancing? Do they swell with pride now that their name is forever? Like a black stain that would prefer to be erased? Do they realize that when the game is played out there are only losers? In Randoald Sabbe's work, history, politics, religion, semantics and their impermanence keep coming up. For him, nothing is what it appears to be at first glance, but at the same time it is. He feels the constant urge to refresh our memory and ensure that nothing is lost.
