Michal Luft lives and works in Antwerpen (BE). Luft holds an BFA (2018) from Shenkar Multidisciplinary Art School, Tel Aviv and an MFA (2022) from The Royal Academy of Fine Art, Antwerp. Her practice involves photography and site-specific works, where she captures, interprets, and recreates everyday objects, in order to explore myths, norms, and narratives embedded within Western social structures. She captures, interprets, and meticulously recreates everyday objects. These objects obtain a seductive appearance, yet they don't behave entirely as expected - their repetitive function, location, or redundancy hint at underlying issues. Luft employs familiar objects to reflect beauty, wellness, and success ideals and to explore the thin line between what we see and what actually happens beneath the surface. In her work ‘Still Life Aided’, I explore the juxtaposition between preservation and destruction, where the vacuum-sealed flower bouquet emphasizes the paradoxical nature of our attempts to control and manipulate our being.
