LES MAINS DANS LES NUAGES: By Nina De Angelis

6 - 23 June 2024
“Drawing is a game whose rules are invented as you go along." - Nina De Angelis

What comes first, the gesture or the trace?

And what remains: the momentum, the energy or the impact?

These are questions that Nina De Angelis reactivates through her practice. Each of her paintings, each brushstroke, each flow of ink reformulates the question in a different way, shining a new light on it.

Faced with a work of art, we know without a doubt that something has happened... and continues to happen through our gaze. We think the image is still, but in reality it is pure impulse for those who are exposed to it.

By weaving the white of a paper and the black of the ink, Nina De Angelis gives room for the movement and trace to dance, giving rise to impressions which are as many riddles not to be solved.

ABOUT NINA DE ANGELIS
Nina De Angelis is a multidisciplinary artist. She chooses Indian ink and movement as her main materials. Timeless Indian ink is the material that best serves the writing of time. Movement is the subject and the main tool of creation.

The object of her work is to observe the particular rhythm of the world and nature, in order to extract it, observe it and translate it into his abstract language. Sometimes, she takes painting to performance to develop the dance that the brush teaches her. Other times, she turns to the installation to let the gesture grow to the scale it needs.

How can we glimpse the rhythm of time? How to translate it onto the space of the white sheet? How to capture the vibrations of the world around you?
